The Player’s Ring Theatre receives generous grant

PORTSMOUTH – The Players’ Ring Theatre recently received a grant of $8,807.18 from The Fabulous Find, a nonprofit resale boutique in Kittery, Maine, to support programs and operations of the “black box” venue located in the City-owned historic building on Marcy Street in Portsmouth.

Each month, The Fabulous Find donates all profits from its sales to selected Seacoast area nonprofit organizations.

Profits from its March sales were equally split between the Players’ Ring Theatre, The Community Gourmet in Kennebunk, Maine, and Hospice Help Foundation in Portsmouth. Each of the three organizations received a grant of $8,807.18

The Fabulous Find is itself a 501c3 non-profit corporation. It was founded in 2010 by a small group of Seacoast Maine and New Hampshire women who had a vision for a non-profit resale boutique that would benefit a variety of other worthy non-profits in the seacoast region. Today, their impact on the local non-profit community is significant: the organization donated over $2,700,000 to more than 160 area non-profits in the past 11 years.

“This gift couldn’t have been timelier,” said Margherita Giacobbi, the Players’ Ring Producing Director.

“The Fabulous Find grant program is very well known in the area as an incredible fund-raising opportunity and local non-profits wait in line sometimes for months and months after submitting their application.”

The Ring had been fortunate enough to be a beneficiary back in 2016, and last year it decided to apply once again.

“This January, after the flood had forced us to shut down and cancel an entire weekend of performances, I received a phone call from a Board Member of The Fabulous Find,” Giacobbi said.

“Our application had reached the top of the list. Days later, we got the wonderful news that we would be among the March recipients. Thanks to the mission and hard work of The Fabulous Find and to everyone who has shopped and donated their preloved items, our theatre is counting to end its 33nd Season in a much stronger position than anticipated!”

Founded in 1992, the Players Ring provides the Seacoast with an intimate and distinctive performance experience by cultivating artistic creativity and freedom and by engaging audiences with unique and exciting theatrical opportunities. The Ring is located in the Puddle Dock section of Portsmouth, next to Strawbery Banke, and Prescott Park. The area is steeped in history, which the Ring maintains in its upkeep of its 1833 facility.
