Portsmouth Library to Showcase Young, Creative Minds

SPLASH exhibit opens Saturday.

On view at the Portsmouth Public Library, opening Saturday, March 14, will be “SPLASH! The Art of Portsmouth’s Young People,” according to a press statement.

Visual art students from Portsmouth’s public schools will have their work displayed in the 8th annual SPLASH! exhibit. This unveiling, which kicks off National Youth Art Month, is the largest exhibit opportunity for the students throughout the school year.

The library will come alive with art from Dondero, Little Harbour and New Franklin as well as the Portsmouth Middle and High Schools. Come feast your eyes on this dazzling display of artwork from grades K-12. The library walls, windows, stairwells and display cases will be filled with a delightful mix of two and three dimensional artwork; drawings and paintings, weavings, collages, stained glass, ceramic and sculptural pieces as well as cyanotype photography and printmaking.

The imagination and skill of our creative youth will be revealed through a wide range of styles, themes and techniques. The work shows off a learned art history and appreciation along with the discovery and innovation that comes from experimentation.

An Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday, March 14, from 1 to 3 p.m., and the exhibition runs through April 15. Come visit the library at 175 Parrott Avenue.
