Portsmouth Man Arrested On Armed Robbery Charge

Police allege that George Laurie held up two Salvation Army employees in December 2017, and stole a money bag from them.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — A local man was arrested on an armed robbery warrant yesterday after a multi-month investigation of a case last year, according to police. George Laurie, 58, of Court Street in Portsmouth, was arrested on Feb. 13, 2018, on a felony armed robbery charge. He was held without bail.

According to police, back on Dec. 18, 2017, police began an investigation into a robbery incident at the Salvation Army Thrift Store on Lafayette Road.

“Two employees reported while exiting the store after closing, they were approached in the parking lot by a white male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and ski mask pointing a gun at them asking for the money bag,” according to Det. Sgt. John Peracchi of the Portsmouth Police Department. “The suspect obtained the bag and then fled the scene.”

The case against Laurie will be handled through the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office Felonies First program. Back in late 2016, he was indicted for felony possession of a controlled drug-fentanyl, possession of drugs in a motor vehicle, and driving after revocation or suspension, allegedly on June 11, 2016, on Batchelder Road in Raymond.
