Portsmouth Police Investigating Body Found In Piscataqua River

Breaking: An unidentified man, in his 50s, with animal tattoos and gray hair and beard, was found floating in the river Friday.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — Police in the Port City are asking for the public's help identifying a man found floating in the Piscataqua River Friday night. Portsmouth police were called to the river around 6 p.m. for a report of a person in the river in the area of the decks behind Surf Restaurant. Officers began to search along with Marine Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Portsmouth Fire Department, who responded with boats.

About 90 minutes into the search, the body was found in the area of Henderson Point on the New Hampshire side of the river. The man was taken to the state pier on Pierce Island where police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's Office attempted to identify him.

"At this time the deceased male has yet to be identified," Capt. Mark Newport of the Portsmouth Police Department stated Saturday.

The man is described as white, between 50 and 60 years of age, with gray hair and a gray bread. He is around 5-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs around 150 lbs. The man has tattoos of a bear on his left shoulder, a deer head on his right shoulder, and a rose on his back.
