UPDATED: Police Say Maine Man Robbed Bank

Joshua Tom Caprarella arrested at Piscataqua Savings Bank on Pleasant Street; transported to hospital; allegedly grabbed gun from officer.

Updated: A Maine man was arrested earlier today after an alleged bank robbery downtown.

Joshua Tom Caprarella, 33, of Berwick Road, in Ogunquit, Maine, was arrested at around 1 p.m. on Nov. 19, on attempted robbery, a felony.

According to an alert, police were called to the Piscataqua Savings Bank on Pleasant Street for a hold-up alarm activation. When they arrived, they found an unarmed man who had allegedly demanded money from bank staffers.

“The suspect remained in the bank until officers from the Police Department arrived and he was taken into custody without incident,” according to Lt. Mark Newport of the Detective Division.

After being transported to the police station, Caprarella was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for medical evaluation. While there, he allegedly “made an attempt to take the firearm from the officer standing by while Caprarella was being evaluated.” He was restrained and later, after medically cleared, was taken to Rockingham County Jail.

A felony attempted taking of a firearm from a law enforcement officer was then added.

Detectives are currently investigating the incident. Bail was set at $1,000 cash. He will be arraigned on Nov. 20.
