Portsmouth Police Report Unattended Death On Union Street
Breaking: Police and the office of the chief medical examiner are investigating the death of a man who may be the city's 3rd fatal overdose.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — Police are investigating an unattended death on Union Street discovered Monday. A 38-year-old man, according to Capt. Darrin Sargent of the Investigative Division of the Portsmouth Police Department, was discovered at 5:15 a.m. by a roommate of the man. The death, he noted, occurred during the overnight hours.
"Despite efforts to revive the male, he was deceased on-scene," Sargent said. "While the cause and manner of the death will ultimately be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, based on the investigation to date it appears to be drug related."
If the man's death is determined to be an overdose, it will be the third one in Portsmouth this year. Police, Sargent added, have reported to 19 non-fatal drug overdoses so far in 2019.
