Portsmouth To Celebrate Halloween
Portsmouth Halloween Parade, Halloween dance at Connie Bean Center highlight a hauntingly fun weekend.
As most city residents know, there is never a shortage of fun things to do or places to go in Portsmouth. Each Thursday, we will offer five suggestions for people who are planning out their weekends.
1. Luck Be A Lady Tonight fundraiser: On Friday evening, the Sheraton Harborside hotel will host the Luck Be A Lady Tonight fundraiser to support breast cancer patients with an old Hollywood glamor theme that will include a professional grade casino party, appetizers, dancing, prizes, raffles and a silent auction.
2. Discover Portsmouth Center reception: The Discover Portsmouth Center on Middle Street will host a reception on Saturday evening to celebrate its third anniversary from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The gala reception will feature wine, hors d’oeuvres and music. The Society suggests a donation of $85 ($50 for members and their guests). For reservations, call 436-8433 or e-mail Laura Calhoun at laura@portsmouthhistory.org.

3. Halloween dance: The Connie Bean Recreation Center will host a Halloween Family Costume Dancer from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday where parents and their kids can dress up in their favorite costumes and enjoy some fun activities. Admission is $10 per person and families are encouraged to bring snacks such as finger sandwiches or cookies.
4. Trick or treat: Portsmouth will hold trick or treating for Halloween on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. throughout the city. Portsmouth Police are urging families and trick or treaters to be safe.

5. Halloween Parade: Last, but not least, the 17th annual Portsmouth Halloween Parade will be held on Monday, Halloween night. Dozens of floats and Seacoast area residents will march through downtown Portsmouth beginning at 6 p.m., rain or shine.
