Portsmouth's Citizens Police Academy Application Period Closing

The collaborative effort between police in Portsmouth, Greenland, Rye, Newington, New Castle, Exeter starts in April.

PORTSMOUTH, NH - The Portsmouth Police Department will be hosting the Citizens Police Academy sponsored by Seacoast Crime Stoppers. The academy will begin on April 19, 2016 and will run on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m. for the following eight weeks, ending on June 7, 2016.

This collaborative effort will involve the police departments of Greenland, Rye, Newington, New Castle, and Exeter, and is funded by Seacoast Crime Stoppers.

The goals of the Citizens Police Academy are:

  • To bring citizens closer to their police departments.
  • To bring a greater understanding of the role of the Police officer in the community.
  • To provide a forum to address community concerns direct to the Police Departments.
  • To expand the participants’ understanding of the laws and police procedure.
  • To increase the public awareness of crime prevention techniques.

There is no fee to the participants. Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Preference will be given to residents and employees from the towns that Seacoast Crime Stoppers serves. The NH towns are Portsmouth, Greenland, Rye, Newington, New Castle, Stratham, Newfields, Newmarket, Durham, Exeter, Kensington and the Maine towns of Kittery, Eliot and York.

Applications are available at the Portsmouth Police Department or at cityofportsmouth.com/police. Application deadline is Thursday March 31, 2016. The course outline is subject to change based on availability and department activity that day. Class size is limited, so please get your application in early.
