Presenters Needed for How-To Festival
Portsmouth Library event attracted more than 1,000 people in 2014.

Last August, more 1,000 people descended on the Portsmouth Public Library for the very first How-To Festival.
For five hours, they could learn to dance like Michael Jackson, open a beehive, build a microscope, kick a field goal, speak Spanish, have a difficult conversation, tie knots, arrange flowers, play chess, write a song, and so much more. This year, YOU could be part of the team, according to a press statement.
Individuals, organizations, and businesses throughout the Seacoast are invited to share a talent, craft, or skill at the 2015 How-To Festival, on Saturday August 1. The festival’s goals are to bring people together across the dividing lines of age, expertise, and skill level, to promote intergenerational and lifelong learning, and to showcase all that the Seacoast has to offer. What do you have to share?

The How-To Festival runs from 10 AM to 3 PM, but each individual presenter will be assigned one station for one hour. Most will teach or demonstrate their skill from start to finish multiple times in that hour. Participants will have a schedule indicating when presentations begin and end, but they may also circulate freely from station to station. Skills that work well in this format are basic, interactive, and easy to practice.
The festival is a free event, so the library is looking for volunteers who will participate as part of their own educational, service, or outreach goals. Last year’s presenters found the How-To Festival a great opportunity for interaction, shared learning and exposure.
