Spring Storm Causes Crashes Around NH

State troopers were struck on I-95 in Portsmouth this morning while a NH DOT plow truck rolled over on I-93.

There were numerous accidents around the southern part of New Hampshire during the first week of Spring storm which dumped anywhere from an inch to more than six inches of snow from Concord to Nashua and the Seacoast, according to alerts online.

Portsmouth Firefighters reported a crash at 5 a.m. while police issued a warning to commuters to not put away their winter driving skills just yet.

“The roads are very slippery so please drive with caution!!,” officers wrote on Facebook.

A slew of crashes were reported on I-93 South, including a crash at the split with I-293 at around 6 a.m. while the Everett Turnpike also reported crashes in Merrimack and Nashua.

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation along with Department of Safety reduced speeds on all highways in the southern part of the state at 6:10 a.m. to 45 mph hour. At 10 a.m., the speed limit reduction was lifted but crashes were still being reported as NH DOT teams continued to clear up the mess.

Crashes were also reported in Brentwood, Kingston, Stratham, and around Rockingham County, which is where the worst of the storm hit, while other accidents reported in I-93 North in Canterbury where a NH DOT plow rolled over on the highway. A two-vehicle accident with injuries was also reported in Nottingham.

At just after 8:30 a.m., Jason Schreiber, a freelance writer for the New Hampshire Union Leader, reported on Twitter that a state police cruiser was involved in a crash on I-95 South in Portsmouth and that a second cruiser that responded to the scene was also struck. Both troopers were treated and released from Portsmouth Regional Hospital earlier today.

By mid-morning, the heaviest snow was falling in the eastern part of the state hit highways, and crashes were reported on the Spaulding Turnpike, Route 101, and Route 107, where a rollover occurred in Epping.
