Robert Gomez had never run the Market Square Day 10K before he won the race on Saturday.
Out of a field of more than 1,800 runners, Gomez, a Saco, Maine, resident, finished with a time of 31:55 when he crossed the finish line on Marcy Street near Prescott Park and Strawbery Banke Museum.
On the women's side, Denish Sandahl of Rochester finished first with a time of 38:02. They and the other runners who ran this year's MSD 10K were blessed with perfect weather conditions throughout.

Gomez said he was very impressed with the course, enjoyed the scenery of Portsmouth and said he will run it again. "It had a lot of twists and turns, but it was great," he said.
Other runners such as Sarah Elia of Somersworth were glad they finished the race, especially if they pushed a stroller with their two kids like Elia did. Elia said she and her two twin daughters, Natalie and Gwen, finished the race together for the third time in 45:09.
