Sunday's episode of the hit television series "Breaking Bad" featured a cameo by Portsmouth's Smuttynose Brewing Company and the Union Leader newspaper.
The brewery's sign could be seen behind Walter White—the show's main character—during a pivotal bar scene near the end of the episode, which was titled "Granite State."
"That was pretty awesome," said Smuttynose spokesman JT Thompson. "You never expect your stuff is going to end up on one of the most popular shows on television."
Thompson said producers reached out to Smuttynose a few months ago about featuring the brewery's sign and several beer taps in the episode. Smuttynose gladly obliged.
"It's great exposure," Thompson said. "When people think of New Hampshire craft beer they think of us. That's pretty awesome."
Actor Bryan Cranston, who plays Walter White, signed one of the taps for Smuttynose, Thompson said.
Smuttynose has also been featured on the show "True Blood" and the movie "The Lords of Salem."
Smuttynose's brewery is located on Heritage Avenue, though it's in the process of moving its operation to a new site in Hampton.
Sunday's episode featured White hiding in the New Hampshire woods to evade authorities—though it wasn't actually filmed in the Granite State.
In the same shot featuring the Smuttynose sign, a bartender can also be seen reading the Union Leader newspaper.
"Breaking Bad" won "Best Drama" at Sunday's Emmy Awards. The final episode of the series will air Sunday.
