Since Star Island the Isles of Shoals were first discovered by Capt. John Smith, famous writers, leaders, and pirates have come and gone.

Editor's Note: Fourth in a five-part series

The list of names of famous historic figures from America's storied past who have graced the shores of Star Island is so extensive it is very possible that they are not all included here.

But thanks to the Star Island Corporation officials, we have compiled a list of several of the famous American writers, poets, leaders, pirates and others. Since Capt. John Smith first discovered Star Island the Isles of Shoals in the early 1600's, famous people have flocked there ever since.
