The creative team behind Tiny Mayhem is excited for the second event of the season on June 9th. “We had a great turnout at our first event on April 14th,” says Tiny Mayhem co-creator Catherine Stewart, “We filled The Red Door with new performance and audiences keen to see something different.” Works shown at Tiny Mayhem are all under 30 minutes in length, and can be fully formed pieces or works-in-progress. “It’s all about experimentation,” says actress and Tiny Mayhem co-creator Emily Karel. “We want to provide a space where people can try something new, explore an idea or find someone new to work with. As performance makers we need challenges, and changes. Tiny Mayhem tries to help that happen.”
The June 9th show will include new works inspired by the theme of belonging and relationships In the line-up this time around there will be a solo performance by poet Mike Nelson, titled The Devil Walks into a Bar, where we will learn what really happened in The Garden of Eden. Mike Nelson is the host of Beat Night at The Press Room and author of the book Another Forty Years. “I met with Mike several months ago, and he was excited about the idea of trying something new with his poetry, and the performance of it. We’re delighted to have him at Tiny Mayhem.” says Stewart. Also presenting on the Tiny Mayhem stage is Genevieve Aichele with her work Memoirs, which will be performed by Kate Kirkwood, Sandra Woodworth along with Aichele herself. “It’s a new script about what happens to families when secrets are brought out into the open,” says Aichele. “I was really inspired by the current fascination with memoirs and ‘reality art’.” Aichele is the founding artistic director of New Hampshire Theatre Project and has been performing, directing, teaching and writing about theatre for 40 years. Other scripts for adults include an adaptation of Lysistrata, and the docudramas Neighborhoods and Dreaming Again. Alongside these two text based performances, Tiny Mayhem will be presenting Hio Ridge Dance, a contemporary movement company based in Denmark Maine.
