Tod Mott launches Kickstarter campaign for Tributary Brewing Co. in Kittery

Brew Master Initiates Kickstarter Campaign for Tributary Brewing Company

Kittery, ME – Legendary New England brewer, Tod Mott, is reaching out to craft beer enthusiasts in the Seacoast community and beyond to support the final push for the brewery he and his wife Galen are opening.

Tributary Brewing Company, located in Kittery’s Post Office Square, is slated to open in late June. The Motts hope to raise $60,000 through a Kickstarter campaign for the purchase of several items that will help get their beer to market.

Renovation of their site, the former grocery store, “Dan’s Star Market,” is nearing completion thanks in part to investors and Driscoll Realty, the property’s owner. According to Debbie Driscoll, “We are delighted that Tod and Galen Mott decided to establish their brewery in Kittery and welcome Tributary Brewing Company as a new anchor at Post Office Square."  DeStefano & Associates of Portsmouth, NH are the construction managers.

The Motts feel strongly about working with local companies and their highly skilled workers. Equipment for the brewery was funded by a loan from SIS Bank, Portsmouth, NH. The four-vessel brew house was designed and fabricated by New England Brewing Systems in Gloucester, MA. The cellar equipment including fermentation, conditioning and brite tanks were made by Tigpro, Inc. of Portland, ME.

First on Tod’s wish list is a mill and grain handling system. He jokingly admits, “I’m no Spring chicken. I’ve been brewing professionally for over 20 years, and I know how helpful that piece can be!”

Tributary Brewing Co. would also like to purchase and install a Clean In Place (CIP) system to reclaim the cleaning chemicals and water that are used for cleaning tanks. “With the name, Tributary Brewing Company, we are going to be very conscientious about our water use,” says Mott.

When open for business, a Tasting Room will be open 5 days a week. It will allow the public to sample the beer and purchase growlers, 32 & 64 oz. glass containers, to go. Tours of the brewery will be available several times a week.

“We hope for a big turnout from the public, especially on Wednesdays when the Kittery Community Market takes place in the parking lot,” said Galen. They hope to draw a number of food trucks to their site on the weekends for the customer’s convenience and to accompany the beer.

Mott has won many awards during his illustrious brewing career including several medals from the Great American Beer Festival, and is a Judge for the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup. He developed the original recipe for Harpoon IPA and the Portsmouth Brewery’s renowned Russian Imperial Stout, Kate the Great. He will produce many styles of beer in the future, but plans to open with four classic styles: Pale Ale, Porter, Saison and IPA; and will release his yet to be named Russian Imperial Stout in November, 2014.
