VIDEO: Vermont Joy Parade Performs on Market Square
The Burlington, Vt., quartet played several songs before their Monday night gig at The Red Door.
Downtown Portsmouth loses a little of its luster each Monday, also known as trash day. But thanks to the Vermont Joy Parade, people who happened upon Market Square late Monday afternoon were treated to a free set.
The band, which just arrived in Portsmouth about their vegetable-oil powered, red, white and blue school bus known as The Zeitgeist Apparatus, broke out their banjo, bass, and drums and guitars and played several songs in front of a small gathering of Portsmouth area residents and visitors who didn't know anything about this group.
The band's members consisted of Benjamin Strosberg on banjo and vocals, Dan Fancher on drums, Devin Robinson on Resonator guitar and Taylor Smith on the big bass fiddle. Grateful listeners also tossed some money into an open guitar case to show their appreciation.

But the Vermont Joy Parade's blend of "suspender-fusion" proved to be very entertaining and enjoyable on what would have otherwise been a pretty blah Monday afternoon. The group is scheduled to perform this evening at The Red Door as part of the club's "Hush Hush Sweet Harlot" series which brings in artists from all over the Northeast every Monday night.
What follows is a video of the Vermont Joy Parade in action.
