Ways to Get Better Sleep

An Integral Part of Health

Eating well for your body's needs and exercising are integral parts of well-being, and so is sleep. Many of us don't get enough shut-eye, or high-quality Z's. Getting optimal rest helps support healthy brain function, maintains physical health, and reduces the risk of long-term health problems. Sleep impacts memory and cognitive thinking, heart health, metabolism, immune function, and everything in between. Even with all these amazing benefits in mind, it can still be hard to get enough good quality sleep. If you are one who has tried counting sheep, or sniffing lavender, and found no assistance, here are a few other tips to try!

  • Wind down with some classical music or lullabies. Set a timer on your phone so they will automatically stop and you don't need to look at your screen again.
  • Change your sheets routinely. Vary your bedding with cotton, flannel, or even fleece to keep it interesting and entice yourself with maximal coziness.
  • Consider a new mattress. If you find yourself consistently under-rested and achy, it might be time for an upgrade! Even a topper might do the trick.
  • Use a humidifier for easier breathing.
  • Go for a bedtime stroll. A little movement and deep breathing can help calm the mind and body.
  • Try to finish eating 2-3 hours before bedtime.
  • Dim the lights a few hours before bedtime to prompt your circadian rhythms into wind-down mode.

If you feel like you've tried everything and still found no relief, we may be able to help! Things like underlying illness, hormonal imbalance, and many other ailments can significantly hinder your ability to get a good night's rest.
