Webinar: Merging University System and Community Colleges— Implications for Employers

Wednesday, April 21, 2021 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon EST

Gov. Sununu is proposing a merger of the University System of New Hampshire, including flagship UNH, with the Community College System of New Hampshire, with 12 locations around the state, into one unified system.

Proponents, including BIA, argue the unification of the two systems is appropriate because demographic and fiscal trends are working against maintaining two separate public, higher education systems and that combining the resources and strengths of the two systems will allow for an integrated, collaborative approach to higher education.

Opponents argue New Hampshire’s community colleges will be subsumed or eliminated by the larger merger partner; that flexibility, training and "localness" of community colleges will be lost; and that other states who have tried similar mergers have failed, requiring that community colleges be rebuilt.

Hear representatives from both sides of this debate. Panelists are Susan Huard, interim chancellor, Community College System of New Hampshire; Joe Morone, chair, University System of New Hampshire board of trustees; and Matt Mailloux, state budget director for Gov. Sununu.
