'Wizard of Oz' Opening Night This Friday
Prescott Park Arts Festival production will highlight week; Huntsman expected to announce his bid for White House in Exeter; City Council to discuss parking garage project Monday.
Local, state and national politics will be percolating this week in Portsmouth along with some interesting cultural events.
1. CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS PARKING GARAGE. On Monday, the City Council will hold a work session at 6 p.m. before their regularly scheduled meeting at at 7 p.m. to discuss the proposed $12 million Worth Lot Parking Garage. City Councilors will give City Manager John Bohenko feedback on the current design proposal.
2. JON HUNTSMAN TO ANNOUNCE: Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman is expected to announced his candidacy for President of the United States in Exeter on Tuesday. Please follow Exeter Patch to get the latest updates regarding his appearance.

3. BIKE AND BUILD RIDERS HERE: This week, members of the Bike and Build will team up with Southeastern New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity of Portsmouth and will make Portsmouth their first stop on a cross-country bicycle tour that will take them to Vancouver, Canada. On Wednesday, the bicyclists will dip their tires in the ocean at Great Island Common park in New Castle at 9 a.m. to officially begin their journey.
4. DAVID MCCULLOUGH AT MUSIC HALL: David McCullough, he Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "Truman" and "John Adams" will be at the Music Hall on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. to discuss his latest book, "The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris."

5. WIZARD OF OZ OPENING NIGHT: The Prescott Park Arts Festival's summer production of "The Wizard of Oz" will have its opening night performance on Friday at 7 p.m. The musical will run each Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from June 24 through August 21 and with a suggested donation of $8 per person.
