#2 - Do you know your neighbors?

Here in L.A. people tend to live life in their back yards! 

In fact, we have a great back yard; grass, a covered patio, a small greenhouse, and a county reservoir behind us at the top of a hill.  So we have lots of green around us.  But on both sides of the yard (many yards) is a six foot block wall.  Across the back is a 3 foot block wall and a 6 foot chain link fence on top of it (security for the reservoir).

The problem here is a lot of neighbors don't know each other.   In fact, we've met our next door neighbors only a few times in the 6 months here. 

So what I miss about Salem is the neighborly feel.  We walked our pugs around the Depot, people would stop to say hi!  We'd meet people outside the stores on Main Street, and most of all, we'd see our neighbors!

In Salem we knew our neighbors, we knew their family, and even some of their friends.  We had good neighbors.  It made life interesting and fun.  And I miss that!
