3 Overdoses In 24 Hours In Salem: Cops

Breaking: Officials are trying to determine if a there is a tainted batch of heroin, fentanyl circulating after man dies on Playcamp Road.

SALEM, NH — Salem Police and Fire and Rescue teams have been called to three overdoses during a 24-hour period since Nov. 2, 2017, that has law enforcement officials concerned about a possible bad batch of drugs – heroin and/or fentanyl – in the community.

“In an all too familiar message, the Salem Police Department is warning of a particularly deadly batch of heroin/fentanyl on the streets,” according to Capt. Joel P. Dolan of the Salem Police Department.

The first of the three overdoses was reported at just after 11 a.m. on Thursday when responders were called to a report of an unconscious woman in the Pelham Road park and ride near Exit 2. When they arrived, the woman was found to be in the midst of an overdose, Dolan stated.

A second incident occurred about two hours later when a man reportedly overdosed in the same location. He was treated at the scene by Salem Fire, Dolan noted.

The third incident occurred this morning at around 4 a.m. on Playcamp Road.

“Upon arrival, officers observed family members performing CPR on the male,” he alleged. “After several attempts to revive the male, he was pronounced deceased at the scene of an apparent opioid overdose.”

All incidents remain under investigation in an attempt to determine where the tainted batch may be originating from, Dolan reported.
