A Concord man was arrested at the Salem Walmart Thursday afternoon after he allegedly took two televisions and tried to return them.
Richard Kuchinsky, 42, was charged with attempt to commit theft by unauthorized taking, criminal trespass and two counts of theft by unauthorized taking.
Police said Walmart loss prevention advised them they had a suspicious male subject at the return desk trying to return two LG 32-inch LCD televisions.
Loss prevention reviewed their video surveillance and saw the individual selecting a TV, placing it in a shopping cart and leaving the store without paying for it. The man was then seen leaving the TV with an unidentified male on the sidewalk.
Police said he was then observed repeating the sequence a second time. They valued the TVs at $298 each.
Loss prevention contacted the suspect outside the store on the sidewalk, stating he did not have a receipt but was about to return the items.
Police said he was escorted back into the store and when he attempted to return the items, they were scanned into the inventory system which showed they belonged to the Salem Walmart and had never been purchased.
Kuchinskey was arrested and refused bail. He was taken to Rockingham County jail to await his arraignment on Friday, police said.
