Atkinson ZBA Denies Diaper Spa Business Permit After Residents Balk: Follow-Up
On Wednesday, hundreds of residents spoke out against the business, which caters to adults who like to dress and play like babies.
ATKINSON, NH — ZBA members in Atkinson denied an in-home business permit for a spa for adults who like to dress up as babies and wear diapers after residents protested the permit, according to Boston.com.
Residents, according to the report, requested rejection of the permit for The Diaper Spa, owned by Colleen Ann Murphy, citing fears of lower home values, traffic to the neighborhood, a change to the family-friendly dynamic of the neighborhood, and that clients might roam, clad in diapers, from the home into a nearby park.
Some said the spa was better suited in a building within a commercial or business zoning district.

Murphy, who had been running the spa for about a month and a half before she realized she needed a permit, said there were many misunderstandings about her business. She said all clients were screened, were over 21, and there were no sexual offerings with the spa’s services.
The ZBA ultimately rejected the permit. Murphy has 30 days to appeal the decision.
