To my fellow Salem residents,
In a few hours, you will head to the polls to make some important decisions about Salem’s future.
First and foremost, I hope everyone will vote. The candidates and supporters of several ballot articles have worked hard to make their case.

I humbly ask for your support to serve on the Budget Committee. This campaign has been a very rewarding experience. It has given me the opportunity to speak with my fellow neighbors about the challenges they face and gather their ideas on how Salem’s budgeting process can best serve them.
There were a few nearly unanimous sentiments that were expressed. First, there is tremendous pride in Salem. Many families have lived here for generations, while others, like myself, have moved here seeking the best quality of life possible. Regardless of their circumstances they care deeply about this special community.

Second, our citizens want strong schools, a safe infrastructure that promotes commerce, and efficient town services. These are the same goals I seek for my family.
Third, we have many citizens who are hurting financially. They appreciate that their taxes are necessary to support Salem. However, they also want to know that their tax dollars are used efficiently and effectively. They want their leaders to know that there are limits to what they can afford as they struggle to pay their bills and support their families.
Finally, they want to know that their voice is heard at Town Hall. They understand that while their leaders may not always agree with them they are at least respectfully listening and keeping an open mind. I want every voter to know that if elected I will do everything I can to ensure that their voice is considered and they know they are not alone in their struggles.
I hope for your support tomorrow for Budget Committee but regardless of your decision I will stand with you and always believe that our community’s best days are ahead of us.Shannon Bettencourt
