Boy Scout Eagle Projects helps Field of Dreams

Eagle Projects

The Field of Dreams in Salem NH recently benefited from two Eagle Scout Projects conducted by Scouts from Troop 267. The first was done by Michael Martland and replaced an unsafe bouncy bridge on the Jungle Gym and also replaced one of the bridges going out to the walking trails in the woods which was too low to allow branches and other debris to flow down the stream. The second project done by Brian Hewett was to provide a message board for the Field of Dreams to post notices and trail maps to those visiting the park and to do trash clean up around the area.

Both Brian and Michael had to raise the money to fund their projects. This was done by Michael with a car wash and a fund raiser at Chili’s, while Brian raised his money with a Spaghetti Dinner. In addition, they were responsible for meeting with the town officials, getting appropriate permits, and supervising the projects to a successful conclusion.

They then had to document and account for all the money and time spent on the project, and produce a report outlining the details of the project, what hurdles had to be overcome, and present this to the Eagle Board for acceptance.

Upon successfully completing their projects and board of reviews, they both were awarded Scouting’s highest rank of Eagle. Only about 6% of the boys who join Scouts actually achieve the rank of Eagle Scout and only about 2 million have achieved the rank since it was established in 1912. Both Brian and Michael have now joined this elite group of Eagle Scouts.
