Application Form

The scholarship was created by the Salem Republican Town Committee to offer high school students in the town of Salem the opportunity to win a $300 cash prize for an essay related to American governance. The essay topic will be chosen and essays judged by the essay committee members.  The objective of the contest is to  encourage students to reflect upon the foundational principles of America and the continuance, importance and influence of these principles on modern society and government.  Students must convey their reflections into written essay form to develop writing skills important for academic and professional success.

 

Essays will be judged on relevance of content, proper use of grammar and clarity of expression.

 

2012 Topic: “Why is our government divided into three branches – why don’t we just have a king?”

  

 To be eligible, the applicant must be a high school student between the ages of 14 and 18 (enrolled in a public or private school, or homeschooled), and a resident of Salem, NH.  Students will be required to submit the essay electronically to essaycontestsalemGOP@gmail.com and the winner will be notified by email. The scholarship award money will be awarded at the  Salem Republican Town Committee meeting, in June 2012, at the Salem Public Library and may be used at the discretion of the student.

2.       550 - 650 word essay (Microsoft Word Document)
