“The Music Man” debuted in 1957 with a storyline and music that are as vibrant and popular today as they were to audiences then. With timeless classic numbers such as “Seventy-Six Trombones”, “Till There Was You”, and “Trouble”, this show brings fun to the whole family! “The Music Man” won five Tony Awards including Best Musical in 1958 against stiff competition from “West Side Story”.

Set in River City, Iowa, it is the story of a fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef.

The scheme is moving along beautifully until he falls in love with the town librarian and piano teacher, Marian Paroo, who knows that he’s a con artist. When Harold takes an interest in helping Marian’s younger brother overcome his social fears caused by his lisp, Marian sees through Harold’s dark side and falls in love with him anyway. Because of his love for Marian, Harold is forced to deal with his past and his feelings.

WAG’s “The Music Man” is directed by James Ferguson from Methuen, MA. James’ most recent professional credits include directing and choreographing “Carousel”, “A Chorus Line”, “Pirates of Penzance”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Faith Journey”, and “Broadway Strutters”. Music director, Keith Belanger, brings his vocal and musical talents from productions such as “Mame”, “Cinderella”, and “Little Shop of Horrors”. With a talented, local cast of actors from Windham, Derry, Londonderry, Haverhill, Hampstead, Salem, and Amherst, the show promises to be a delight for the entire family!
