WEDNESDAY UPDATE: Town, School Candidates

John Manning out for School Board, ZBA; Carl Swiderski enters selectmen's race.

UPDATE, WEDNESDAY, FEB. 1: John J. Manning Jr., who had previously filed for both the Salem School Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment elections, told Patch he has elected to drop out of both races and will instead run for Planning Board.

Additionally, a new name has entered the race for the two three-year seats on the Board of Selectmen: Carl Swiderski joins Ronald Belanger, Everett McBride, James Keller and P. Anthony McKeon in the election.

Elsewhere, incumbent Phyllis O'Grady has filed for the Planning Board election. Paul Welch has also switched from running for a one-year Budget Committee seat to a three-year Budget Committee seat.

With two days before the filing period closes, Welch and incumbents Paul Huard and Russ Frydryck are the only candidates to sign up for the four open seats on the Budget Committee. Frydryck is running for a one-year seat while Huard and Welch will seek one of three three-year seats.

UPDATE, MONDAY, JAN. 30: There has been one new candidate filing since Thursday afternoon: Patricia Frydryck, an incumbent, has filed for a two-year seat for the Supervisors of the Checklist.

There have been no other new filings for town or school election positions. Town Clerk Susan Wall said nobody has filed for a three-year Trustee of the Trust Fund seat yet.

THURSDAY, JAN. 26: A fourth person has filed for a run for one of the two open seats on the Salem Board of Selectman as of Thursday afternoon.

That is P. Anthony McKeon, who joins Ronald Belanger, James Keller and Everett McBride for this March's election.

There are two open seats on the Salem School Board as well. Incumbent Pamela Berry will be running for another term. As of Thursday afternoon, she'll be joined in the race by two others: Michael Carney and John J. Manning.

The Budget Committee has four open seats, including three three-year terms and one one-year term. Chairman Russell Frydryck has filed for a one-year term. Paul Welch has also filed for that seat.

So far, only incumbent Paul Huard has filed for any of the three-year seats on the Budget Committee.

For the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Manning has also thrown his hat in the ring for a two-year seat, as has Bernard W. Campbell. Incumbent Gary Azarian is running for a three-year seat.

Planning Board member Edward DeClercq and alternate Paul Pelletier have filed for the three-year seats on that board.

Incumbent Town Moderator Chris Goodnow has filed to retain his two-year position, while Annette Cooke has filed for a three-year term for Library Trustee. Incumbent Melissa Sorcinelli has filed for six-year term for the Supervisors of the Checklist.

The filing period will run through Friday, Feb. 3, for both school and town offices. A fill list of town office openings is .
