Haverhill Man Faces Drug Charges After Traffic Stop
Salem Police allegedly found a kilo of heroin-fentanyl and $71,000 in cash inside Jason Belmer's car.
SALEM, NH — A Massachusetts man is being held on $25,000 cash bail after an arrest in late August and the execution of search warrant that led to a kilo worth of drugs allegedly being found in his car, according to Salem Police. Jason Belmer, 38, of Haverhill, MA, was arrested on Aug. 31, 2017, for driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest or detention, and transporting drugs in a motor vehicle. On Sept. 11, he was charged with three counts of possession of drugs with intent to distribute. Police reportedly conducted a motor vehicle on South Broadway after it was driving recklessly, according to Capt. Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department.

Officers also allegedly found a cut straw in the vehicle, Dolan alleged.
“As officers began to question the male about their observations the male ran back to his vehicle and attempted to drive away,” he stated. “Officers were able to take the male in to custody as he was yelling at a passenger to get in the vehicle and drive away.”

Belmer was then arrested, released on personal recognizance bail, and the car seized. Police filed for and received a search warrant to eye the contents of the vehicle.
“During the search, a kilo sized package of tightly wrapped white powder was located, along with numerous bags of white powder and items used in the packaging and distribution of narcotics,” Dolan alleged. “All of the powder is suspected (to be) heroin/fentanyl. In addition to the narcotics, approximately $71,000 in cash was recovered from the vehicle.”
A warrant was issued for Belmer’s arrest on drug dealing charges and when he showed up for his arraignment on Sept. 11, he was charged and held on cash bail.
