Holiday Inn In Salem Evacuated Due To Hazardous Materials

Update: Salem firefighters are at the hotel after three people were taken to the hospital. Windham, Pelham, and others are assisting.

SALEM, NH — The Holiday Inn on Keewaydin Drive in Salem was evacuated Friday for a report of a hazmat incident. According to Salem Fire and Rockingham Alert, teams were sent to the hotel at around 1:30 p.m. for a report of fumes in the hotel due to chemicals being mixed. The fumes led to people in the building becoming sick.

Three patients were taken to the hospital.

The hazmat team was activated and mutual aid was called in to assist.

Along with Salem firefighters, Windham, Pelham, and Methuen, Massachusetts, teams were called in to help cover the town during the incident.

At just after 4 p.m., Salem Fire posted on Facebook that the issue had been resolved and the building was reoccupied.

"Thank you to our mutual aid partners Windham FD, Windham Asst. Health Officer, Pelham FD, Methuen FD and the SENH Haz-mat Team for your assistance at the scene, handling our other calls and covering the town while we were all tied up," the department stated.
