How to get your Brazen Raisin?
What is a Brazen Raisin, why do you want one and how to get it!
Written by: Siri Wilbur
For starters, let me share with you what it is. It is one of my favorite species of what I grew up knowing as Coral Bells (Huechera) which my Nana always had in her garden. They are not big showy flowers but delicate plumes or panicles from pale pink to shades of coral. The color of the panicles all depend on the variety you grow. This year’s WGC plant sale will have the very new variety from Proven Winners™.
This plant will be my favorite investment in the garden this summer. It will add a dramatic splash of dark purplish black foliage to any combination of containers and landscapes with the new Medium to large size, flat, matte textured leaves with wine red undersides form a dense mound.

In midsummer, deep red scapes carry showy panicles of hot pink buds which open to pale pink to white flowers with a hot pink base. From a distance, the flowers appear like a light pink cloud floating above the nicely contrasting dark foliage. This plant occasionally reblooms into fall.
Coral bells are easy to grow and blend easily with most other perennials in the landscape. Because of their low, mounding habit, they are often used as edging along paths or in containers.
