Kuster Works on Veterans Issues
Focus of homelessness discuss at committee hearing earlier this month.

Recently, U.S. Rep. Ann McLane Kuster, D-NH, attended a House Veterans’ Affairs Committee hearing to address veteran homelessness, and to discuss the VA’s progress in reaching its goal of ending homelessness among our nation’s veterans.
During the hearing, Kuster got a chance to hear from Chief Executive Officer John Downing of Solider On, an organization that provides housing and supportive services to help veterans in need become self-sufficient. Soldier On is currently in the process of setting up a new housing facility in Plymouth.
“Our veterans made great personal sacrifices to serve and protect our nation, and no veteran should ever be forced to live on the streets while making the extremely challenging transition back to civilian life. We must ensure they always have the support and services they need,“ said Kuster. “That’s why I was very pleased to get a chance to hear from Soldier On this morning about plans to build a veterans housing and supportive services facility right in Plymouth New Hampshire. Grafton Country veterans will greatly benefit from the services offered by Soldier On, including transportation to appointments, employment placement services, and financial assistance. During this morning’s hearing I was grateful to get a chance to offer my assistance to the organization as it moves forward with the building process.”

Kuster has served on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee since first taking office. The daughter of a World War II veteran and former POW, she is a strong advocate for veterans all across New Hampshire. When the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee uncovered instances of mismanagement at the Phoenix VA and other medical centers across the country, Kuster helped lead the charge in completely overhauling the VA to ensure all veterans could access medical care in a timely manner. Kuster continues to fight for veterans’ rights, and she believes we must do more to ensure not only that all veterans can access the medical services they need, but also that the VA is taking all necessary steps to completely eradicate veteran homelessness.
