With some of the sightings from the last week, it's clear that fall migration is underway.
After going 3 weeks without seeing a single warbler species in town, this past week provided several species including American Redstart, Pine Warbler, an early migrating Palm Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, and Yellow Warbler.
Migrating shorebirds have also been spotted including 2 Pectoral Sandpipers, 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper, Solitary Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpipers and Least Sandpipers.
World End Pond seems to be an inland magnet for migrating shorebirds. Typically, these birds can be found in coastal habitats, but this shallow pond acts as a spot for them to feed and refuel as they make their way back south of the equator.
Also of note over the last week have been Great Egret, Wood Thrush, Willow Flycatcher, Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, Common Nighthawk, Green-winged Teal and Hooded Merganser.
