The officer learned that the rider – Scott – had a suspended license and suspended registrations and informed him that he was going to be arrested. Scott allegedly attempted to flee – running to an adjacent parking lot – where he was reportedly tackled by the officer.

“As the two struggled, Scott reached into his pocket, removed a large bag containing a quantity of cocaine, and inserted it into his mouth,” according to Sgt. Joseph Keating of the Salem Police Department. “Additional units arrived on scene and deployed a Taser, allowing officers to restrain Scott with handcuffs.”

However, Scott allegedly continued to struggle with officers as he attempted to chew the bag of cocaine. Officers, in what Keating called “a lengthy period of time,” were able to talk Scott into allowing them to remove the cocaine from his mouth, according to a report.

Scott was transported to headquarters and held on $15,000 bail due to him being out on bail by the Rockingham County Superior Court on a felon in possession of a firearm charge. He was arraigned earlier today.
