Mass. Man Arrested For Alleged Wrong Way Drunk Driving

Jason Marion of Tewksbury was arrested today on Rockingham Park Boulevard allegedly attempting to drive south I-93 in the northbound lane.

SALEM, NH — An officer in Salem may have averted an accident on I-93 this morning after pulling over a Bay State man who was allegedly drunk driving in the wrong direction on Rockingham Park Boulevard, according to police. At just after 1 a.m. on Jan. 25, 2018, an officer spotted a vehicle traveling on the roadway, approaching his vehicle, according to Capt. Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department. The officer was able to avoid a head-on collision and then, made a motor vehicle stop.

“Upon conducting the stop, (the) officer approached the operator of the vehicle and was able to make several observations which indicated the operator may be impaired,” Dolan alleged. “The operator submitted to a series of field sobriety tests and at the conclusion of those tests, he was taken into custody.”

The driver – Jason Marion, 26, of Tewksbury, MA, was charged with a single count of driving while intoxicated.

Dolan noted in a press statement that the officer’s quick response probably prevented a “tragic accident on I-93,” since Marion was stopped just before entering the Interstate, driving south in the northbound lane.
