“Salem and Pelham officers found the crashed 2011 Honda Civic in the woods on Bridge Street at the intersection of Balcom Road a short time later,” Pelham Police noted in an alert online. “The Civic’s front-end was heavily damaged from striking small trees and both airbags deployed. The car was towed due to the damage. Neither the driver nor the passenger (were) injured in the crash.”

Officers spoke with the driver, later identified as Mammola, and one allegedly “observed indicators of impairment as they discussed the single vehicle crash on the straight portion” of the street. He was arrested and then, after speaking to the victim, police reportedly determined that “a significant assault took place in Salem.”
