At around 2 p.m., officers were tipped off to a possible drug deal on Main Street.

The caller provided the description of the male heading to purchase the narcotics as well as the vehicle being driven by the suspects, according to Capt. Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department.

Officers were able to conduct surveillance in the area and observed the previously described male walk up to vehicle, engage in a brief conversation with the occupants and then walk away.

“Uniformed officers stopped the male and the vehicle as it drove away,” according to Dolan. “Through their investigation officers were able to determine the male had gone to the vehicle to purchase heroin, but claimed to have been ‘ripped off.’ Officers checked the area and located a small clear plastic bag containing what appeared to be heroin in the mud near the area the male had just walked.”

The only footprints in the area matched those of the male, Simone, according to Dolan, and he was arrested. Other charges were added to his docket, since there was “a prior investigation” involving other allegations, including the forgery and fraud charges.

Collado-Duran and Maria were in the car and they were arrested.

Simone was held on $3,500 cash bail. Collado-Duran and Maria were released on personal recognizance and are due in court on Feb. 29.
