Police were sent to the Lowe’s in town after loss prevention employees summoned them for a report of suspicious men in the store, according to Capt. Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department.

“Loss prevention watched the men load a large amount of tools into a carriage,” he noted. “Due to their actions, store personnel believed the two were going to steal the tools or commit a fraud.”

The men reportedly attempted to purchase the tools with a credit card that was declined, according to the report, and they allegedly “briskly walked away” and headed to a Ford pickup truck in the parking lot. An officer began speaking to them as they approached the truck, Dolan stated.

“The men told officers they wanted to buy tools but, changed their mind,” Dolan alleged. “As officers were speaking to the men, they could see a large amount of tools packed into the cab of the pick-up truck. Officers also discovered a credit card that did not match the name of either of the men. One of the men said he found the card on the ground.”

The investigation revealed that the card had reportedly been taken from a vehicle in Winchester, MA, on Monday. The card also had allegedly been used at the Lowe’s in Woburn, MA, to purchase tools that allegedly matched tools found in the pickup truck, according to the report.

Both Calpouzos and Delia were then arrested. Calpouzos was held overnight in the Rockingham County Jail and arraigned yesterday; Delia was released on personal recognizance bail and is due in court on July 24.

Calpouzos, according to a report on Patch last September, was arrested on numerous theft charges after he allegedly stole a family member’s wedding ring and other jewelry to hock.
