Why are you seeking elective office?
Using my experience on town board's and committees in the town of Salem to ensure that Salem always remains that small town feeling, along with managing the increasing growth of our town. Maintaining tax rates that young or elderly can accept. And protecting the town I love.
The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
I believe the most important issue facing our town right now is the replacement of the police station. And the land acquisition for a new fire station on the west side of town. Increasing revenue in our town is up most important to maintain the funds for these two buildings. Nobody, including myself wants to see the taxes increase. So finding ways of saving money and looking out for wasteful spending is one of my priorities if elected.. this can be a time-consuming job, I am semi-retired I own a small business and I have the time to dedicate to the job of a Town council. Thank you
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
As I read a few of the candidates are lawyers, or hold major degrees.
I have what most don't and that's common sense. And years of experience.
If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)
I believe what the former elective officials have failed in is transparency. And keeping the taxpayers and the voters in the loop. As a town form of government with nine elected council personnel along with a community of people that are involved in their community giving their ideas wants and concerns. And allowing the voices to be heard.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
With the combination of being a four-term elective official on the planning board, and other committees such as the capital improvement committee, the Rockingham planning commission. I have learned what our town of Salem needs for infrastructure and growth, without breaking the bank.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have been involved from the very start from the Tuscan kitchen, to the entire of the Tuscan South and North project.
The best advice ever shared with me was:
I'd have to say listening to an older and wiser , but unfortunately a deceased man. That served many years as a town selectman, planning board member, and a former 25-year New Hampshire state representative. Once told me two things. When serving on any board, watch out what you say no to. And when running for an elective office, remember signs don't vote, people vote.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I've been a resident of Salem since 1968. I've seen Salem grow really fast through the decades. But it still has that small town feeling that I love. I am a member of the historical society because I believe that's very important especially to our younger generation. I am a member and a former commander of the Sons of the American legion Salem New Hampshire post 63. I'm also a member of SERT, Salem emergency response team.
I have the passion and the desire to keep our town of Salem moving forward in a safe economic and wonderful place to bring our children up. I thank you for reading this column and with hope I asked for your vote for one of the two seats position on the Salem Town commission thank you
