Possible Haigh Closure Revisited by School Board

As enrollments decline, the School Board is searching for solutions.

The Eagle-Tribune reported the Salem School Board spent time at their Thursday meeting on the possibility of closing Haigh Elementary School, doing minor renovations and renting it out in the face of decreasing student enrollments.

According to the paper, School Board member Bernie Campbell, who first broached the subject of closing Haigh last year, said work needs to be done at Fisk and Soule Elementary Schools so the community can move on to pressing renovation needs at Salem High School. The board also discussed the idea of re-districting the elementary schools, but that did not appear to get much support.
