Rockingham County Meals on Wheels Discussed Wednesday

Gov. Maggie Hassan and U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen will visit the Ingram Senior Center in Salem to “highlight the effects of federal funding cuts and unpaid-for business tax cuts at the state level to the Rockingham County Meals on Wheels program,” according to a press statement.

Hassan and Shaheen will participate in a roundtable discussion with staff, volunteers and clients of Rockingham Nutrition to discuss the Meals on Wheels program.

The Meals on Wheels program in Rockingham County provides nutritious meals and beneficial support services to older and disabled residents of Rockingham County who need assistance to help them preserve long term health, well-being and independence. It provides these services to all 37 towns of Rockingham County.

Earlier in the day, Hassan will attend the Lancaster Fair, visiting with local vendors and fair patrons and celebrating the fair’s 145th year. For more information, visit lancasterfair.com.

Governor Hassan will end her day with a visit to Mack’s Apples in Londonderry, where she will pick the ceremonial first apple of the 2015 harvest season and proclaim Sept. 2, 2015, as New Hampshire Apple Day.

The event at Mack’s Apples is part of the seventh annual New England Apple Day, when each state in the region chooses an orchard for a ceremonial first picking to promote the beginning of harvest season for local apple orchards. Mack’s Apples is a farm of approximately 400 acres, 100 of which are just for apples. The farm also harvests peaches, pears, pumpkins, squash and maple syrup.
