Route 28 Traffic Slowed by Water Main Break

It could take four to five hours to fix the problem.

A water main break has snarled traffic on a busy Salem roadway heading into the holiday weekend.

Salem Police said in a tweet around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday that the northbound lanes on Route 28 by Taylor Street are closed due to a water main break. Public works crews are on scene and estimate it could take four to five hours to repair the water main.

Route 28 is open at this time, but northbound lanes are closed, which is severely impacting traffic. Motorists are being urged to avoid the area if at all possible.
