As the summer season officially kicks off, many Americans will spend time with family and friends over the long holiday weekend. But there are hundreds of thousands of Americans who can’t be with loved ones because they are deployed overseas for military duty. That’s why three Denny’s in the Boston area are launching Operation: Support OUR Troops, a letter-writing campaign to show the community’s support for these brave men and women.

“We are so appreciative of the sacrifice troops make to defend our country and want them to know they have not been forgotten. Many of our team members have family and friends serving overseas, so this is a cause that means a lot to Denny’s,” said Denny’s franchisee, Joe Cloutier.  “Throughout Memorial Day weekend, we will be collecting heartfelt letters from our guests and team members, and then sending them to soldiers deployed overseas. We are hopeful these messages of thanks will reach troops at a time they need it the most.”

Denny’s hopes parents will use this as an opportunity to talk with their children about the significance of Memorial Day – beyond the burgers and swimming pools.

“We see this as a great opportunity for this community to engage with our military servicemen and women, express our thanks for their sacrifice and maybe even gain a new pen pal friendship,” Cloutier said.
