Salem Family is Looking for Financial Assistance

The Wehkoja family has been hit with some pretty hard times including cancer, employment issues, and problems making ends meet and has put up a CrowdRise.com post asking others for short-term assistance.

Tommy is a hard working loving devoted father. Tom survived kidney cancer a few years ago, his doctors removed one of them. This new cancerous tumor in his neck is something that broke off from his kidney.

Right now the plan is giving Tom injections to strengthen the bone due to degenerative bone disease on top of the cancer, & weekly radiation. Some of his daily medications on top of his weekly treatments are making him very sick. He has good and bad days, and I’m thankful for every “good” day he has to be with us.

Tommy has worked his entire life making asking for help now very hard. He was diagnosed with cancer in November but kept working despite his doctors telling him not to, he was more concerned about supporting our children than his own health. He can no longer put his health at risk, so has been out of work for 4 weeks as of today. We are between a rock and a hard place.

We have 2 beautiful babies, Emily 1 & Tommy Jr. 2 years old that are our world! They adore & love there Daddy very much.

Now that Tom cannot work, things have gotten really hard for our family. It’s as little as milk, diapers & wipes, paying for his meds. Like everyone else, we have the regular bills to worry about-- keeping electricity on, getting oil for the house.

We’ve been practical, no more cell phone & Tom had to give back his car to the dealership but that leaves us with my broke down van; There is no heat-needs thermostat, emissions are bad so it’s not passing inspection, oil pan is leaking .. I really need help to get my sticker & heat back into the van.

And then there is our house. I’m putting pictures of the bathroom floor below so you can see first hand the danger all of us are in.. There is a huge hole going through the bathroom floor, the floor gets weaker everyday, I’m afraid the tub is going to drop to the garage. Plus our back sliding door broke & needs to be replaced & lets out what precious heat we do have, we can’t open & shut it. The mold is overtaking the garage, our roof is leaking more everyday and our pipes keep freezing because of no insulation. I am very greatful that the pipes haven’t burst yet.

Tommy needs to take care of himself right now & stress only lowers his immune system making him sicker. We would greatly appreciate Any help given to make our home & car safer!

I don’t want anyone reading this thinking we are out asking for help for the wrong reasons so Tommy is more than happy to give you authorization to talk directly to his oncologist, and to provide any proof you need..
