Salem Man Injured in Motorcycle Crash

Rider reportedly loses control of Honda on Old Rockingham Road while speeding near another vehicle.

A local man was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries yesterday after a crash on Old Rockingham Road.

The man, 45, was driving north on a 2000 Honda CBR900 motorcycle when he lost control of the bike on April 5, 2015.

According to police, a witness who was also driving north reported seeing the rider tumble his bike right next to her vehicle.

“The witness stated she was travelling at 40 mph when she spotted (the rider) who had already been thrown from his motorcycle,” according to Lt. Joel P. Dolan of the Salem Police Department. “As a result of the investigation, officers determined (the rider) had been traveling behind the witness and came upon her at a high rate of speed. As he attempted to break, he lost control and was thrown from his motorcycle.”

Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor in the crash, according to police. Police though believe speed to be “a contributing factor.”
