Salem May Up Fees for Local Restaurants, Businesses

Town officials are proposing several fee increases for various licenses and town services.

The Salem Board of Selectmen will seek input Monday night on a series of proposed fee increases that would raise costs for local residents, restaurants and other businesses for the first time in over 20 years, according to the Eagle-Tribune.

The Eagle-Tribune has reported that the board has a public hearing scheduled for their 7 p.m. meeting to discuss the fees, which include upping some restaurant fees by $25 to $100, increasing the Ingram Senior Center fee for out-of-towners from $35 to $40, and doubling the cost of gas service permits from $50 to $100, among several other changes. Town Manager Keith Hickey told the paper that the increases seek to cover expenses for various services that have become costly to provide, not make a profit for the town.
