Salem PD Deputy Chief Saves Mans Life

October 14, 2015: At approximately 12:30 am Deputy Chief James Chase was leaving a private detail at the Rockingham Racetrack. As he was walking to his vehicle he was notified that an employee of the racetrack was laying in the parking lot suffering from a possible heart attack.

Deputy Chief Chase responded to the area and immediately began evaluating the male. Deputy Chief Chase then began CPR on the male as it appeared the male had stopped breathing and no longer had a pulse. Deputy Chief Chase continued CPR until paramedics from the Salem Fire Department responded to the scene. The male was transported to Holy Family and is expected to survive this medical incident.

The fact that Deputy Chief Chase was on-scene and took immediate action undoubtedly saved this man’s life.

According to a source associated with the hospital, the man is doing well, but does require bypass surgery.
