Salem Planning Board Holds Off on Building Height Restriction
A height restriction of three stories was proposed for Salem's Town Center District. The planning board will wait one year to decide.
The Salem Planning Board will put off voting on a height restriction for the town center district for at least one year, according the the board’s Dec. 23 meeting minutes.
A height limit of three stories, or 45 feet, was proposed for the district. The town center district is the only district in Salem currently without a building height limit, according to the minutes.
The Planning Board discussed a height restriction after looking over zoning regulations for the assisted living project and noticing the district had no restriction. The board ultimately decided, however, not to push the issue to ballot.

Selectman James Keller recommended the delay because he didn’t think the planning board would see a project requesting a height taller than three stories soon and because the March ballot is already multiple pages.
The Planning Board voted unanimously to delay the issue.
