Salem Postpones Town Election to March 18
Breaking: The Nor'easter heading to the region as well as public safety concerns are prompting the decision.

SALEM, NH — Due to the severe winter storm that is anticipated for southern New Hampshire, the Salem Town Moderator has postponed the Town/School District Election and Ballot Voting Day from Tuesday to Saturday, March 18, 2017, according to a press statement. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the same five polling locations (Fisk School, Soule School, Barron School, North Salem School and the Ingram Senior Center).
The moderator’s decision to postpone the voting day is in accordance with NH RSA (Revised Statutes Annotated) 40:4,II, which in part states:
“In the event a weather emergency occurs………….which the moderator reasonably believes may cause the roads to be hazardous or unsafe, the moderator may, up to 2 hours prior to the scheduled session, postpone and reschedule the deliberative session or voting day of the meeting to another reasonable date, place, and time certain.”
Voters who cannot be physically present on March 18, may obtain an absentee ballot from the Town Clerk’s Office at 33 Geremonty Drive, Salem, until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 17.

“There has been a great deal of discussion in the state of New Hampshire in the last 24 hours concerning conflicting state laws regarding this situation," Town Moderator Christopher Goodnow stated. "Ultimately, one of the most important considerations in this decision is the safety of the voting citizenry and the election employees themselves. We will be able to provide a safe and secure voting experience for our citizens on Saturday, March 18th and we encourage the citizens of Salem to come out and vote on that day.”
