Salem Public Safety Complex Rejected

Corrected post: McBride, Keller win Board of Selectmen seats; all other articles approved.

Editor’s Note: This post has been edited to reflect the correct outcome of the public safety complex vote.

Salem voters went to the polls on March 10, 2015, and approved all but one town warrant article and also cast ballots in numerous contested races.

In the Board of Selectmen’s race, Everett McBride Jr. topped the ticket with 1,785 votes. Winning the second seat easily was James Keller, who received 1,679 votes. P. Anthony McKeon received 1,018 votes and Aaron J. Majka earned 575 votes.

In the race for three Budget Committee seats, Robert Bryant, Paul Huard, and Dane F. Hoover Jr. succeeded in capturing the seats with Patrick McDougall rounding out the field of candidates.

Keith Belair and Paul Pelletier easily won the two Planning Board seats with Phyllis O’Grady coming in third.

Salem voters also approved all but one warrant article.

An article allowing more temporary signs to qualifying events was approved by less than 50 votes out of more than 3,300 cast.

A majority of residents voted in favor of a new public safety complex proposal but it failed to receive the 60 percent needed for approval.
